6 Days Rwanda Cultural tour

This is exclusively a cultural tour to Rwanda commonly known as the land of a thousand hills by travelers. The trip begins with a trip to Omwami’s palace in Nyanza, processing to the locally revered hot springs of Rugaraga near Nyungwe Forest in south west of Rwanda.

You will visit a number of other places, ending the trip in Ruhengeri, where the batwa pigmies, an animist community were resettled. You will also visit genocide memorials in Gishenyi, Butare and Ruhengeri.

TRIP ITINERARY

Day 1: Nyungwe Tour
  • After meeting up with our guide in the morning, transfer to Nyungwe forest with a stopover at the local market along the way.
  • Visit the traditional palace of Rwanda’s former king in Nyanza.
  • Dinner and overnight at Rest House
Day 2: Butare Cultural Museum
  • Tour the botanical gardens and a cultural museum in Butare before later visiting the hot springs in Bugarama.
Day 3: Lake Kivu Tour
  • Undertake a primates tracking tour in the Nyungwe forests in search of immense troops of Angolan colobus and the chimpanzees.
  • After lunch, drive to Gisenyi swimming in the Bilharzia free fresh water of Lake Kivu whose background is beautified by Nyirangongo the active volcano which recently erupted in 2002.
  • Transfer back to Kigali for an overnight stay.
Day 4: Dian Fossey
  • Early in the morning transfer northwards to Ruhengeri and visit the surrounding communities as well as the local Dian Fossey projects.
  • Dinner and overnight Gorilla Nest Lodge/Kinigi Guest House
Day 5: Community Walk
  • After breakfast, undertake a community walk that will be spiced by local traditional dances by the batwa that can be pre-arranged for you upon request.
  • Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Nest /Kinigi Guest House.
Day 6: Touring Karisoke Gorilla Research Centre
  • After Breakfast, tour karisoke Gorilla Research center started by Dian Fossey, the famous primatologist.
  • Later in the day transfer back to Kigali to catch your flight.
  • However, in case you still have time, you can have a city tour, visiting the nyabugogo market, the moslem quarter in Nyamirambo, among others.
