OVERVIEW

This trip takes you to Rwanda to the Volcanoes National Park mainly for mountain Gorilla tracking. The park is notably celebrated as one of the only 4 parks in the world that are homes to the last remaining mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat.

The park is also a home to the golden monkey species that can only be found in the Virunga Massif shared by Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo.

ITINERARY

Day1: Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park

You will meet with the guide either at the Airport or from the hotel in Kigali and then be transferred to volcanoes National park head offices at Kinigi.

To get well prepared for the adventure of Gorilla Tracking, don’t forget to carry a good camera, walk able shoes that can help you with the uneasy jungle conditions, rain gear since the weather in the forest is unpredictable among others.

You will have dinner and overnight at either Sabyinyo silverback lodge, Virunga safari lodge, Gorilla’s nest or Kinigi guest house

Day 2: Dian Fossey Hike and transfer to kigali

After breakfast, you will start on a trek to the Dian Fossey center in tribute to the the good work that she did for conserving the mountain gorillas.

Diane Fossey was an American naturalist who devoted her life into saving these gigantic but peaceful apes from extinction by fighting against poachers and carrying out research into the life mountain gorillas from the Volcanoes National Park by bringing their plight to the attention of the international community.

The trek to the tomb of this great conservationist involves a 30 minutes’ drive from the park headquarters to the trail head to access the Karisoke research camp where visitors walk for 10 minutes to the park boundary. The hike offers good views of forest hogs, forest elephants, a variety of primates and bird species among others.

You will return to the lodge to have lunch and after depart drive to Kigali for a simple city tour as you await to board your flight back home or for dinner and overnight at the hotel if you still have another day in Rwanda.
