7 Days Uganda Primates and Wildlife Safari

Trip Summary

On this trip, you are to visit Kibale Forest National Park, the most magnificent of Uganda’s tropical rain forests and one of the rewarding areas to explore. Kibale boasts of 13 species of primates including the localized Red Colobus, L’Hoest’s monkeys, Chimpanzee – the park’s major attraction and the Endemic Uganda Mangabay. The park also boasts 372 bird species which 60% are recorded Uganda’s forest birds. Expect to see a number of unique species of birds, animals and insects, most active at night such as Bat, Owl, Pottos, Bush babies, civets, Genet cats and Eastern Needle Nailed.

Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls National parks are incredible homes to abundance of wildlife. Game drives in either of the parks provide excellent                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             opportunities to see lion, leopard, giant forest hog, Cape buffalo, elephants, de fassa waterbuck, Uganda Kob, Topi and bush buck among others.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

Begin the panoramic drive north-west from Kampala, through the famous Luwero Triangle and Masindi Town to Murchison Falls National Park. You will arrive in time for a picnic lunch at the spectacularly situated site at the top of the falls where you can see the Nile’s beauty perfected!

Marvel at the Nile, compressing from up to 1 km squeeze through a 7 meter canyon dropping 150 meters with a thunderous roar creating a beautiful rainbow at the Murchison Falls.

Enjoy the comfort and superb service of Paraa Safari Lodge or Nile Safari Camp.

Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Cruise

After breakfast, Cross the Victoria Nile to the northern Bank by a ferry for a game drive to spot the Elephants, Lions, Cape buffalos, Rothschild’s giraffes, hartebeests, Waterbucks, Oribi, Bushbucks, Bohor reedbucks, hyenas and luckily the leopard.

After a packed lunch picnic, go for a boat safari upstream the calm Victoria Nile to the base of the falls, stopping just tens of metres from the ‘Devil’s Cauldron’. En-route, marvel at the toothsome hippos, crocodiles and over this 17km stretch you may see elephant, waterbuck and Uganda Kob.

Meanwhile, this zone is also renowned for a number of bird species like Goliath heron, Egyptian goose, pelican bee-eater, kingfisher, hornbill, cormorant and the rare shoebill stork.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

Embark on the all-day drive south via Hoima, to Fort Portal through verdant countryside and past traditional homesteads and farms. Fort-Portal rests in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon, the Rwenzoris.

Arrive in Kibale in the Evening

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking

After Breakfast, you will go for a full day search of chimpanzee and 10 other diurnal primate including red colobus, red tailed and grey cheeked mangabay.

This is a guaranteed both informative and enjoyable walk as the guide will provide you detailed explanations, not only on primates, but also on all the forest fauna and flora. This walk is also excellent for viewing bird

  • Dinner and overnight at Kibale Tented Camp.

Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Early morning, proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park for a two hours’ drive. A game drive en-route to view lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, hyena and a variety of antelope species.

Enjoy a unique 2 hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel into Lake Edward passing through possibly the highest concentration of hippopotamus in Africa, also offering an excellent platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing.

Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge or Jacana Safari Lodge.

Day 6: Game Drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Enjoy two game drives through Queen Elizabeth National Park’s diverse eco-system of grassy plains, tropical forest, rivers, swamps, lakes and volcanic craters. One in the morning and the other in the evening.

Game drives in this park provides excellent opportunities to see lion, leopard, giant forest hog, cape buffalo, elephants, defassa waterbuck, Uganda Kob, Topi and bush buck among others.

These two game drives are a memorable method of discovering a vast array of wildlife.

Day 6: Exploring Kyambura Gorge/ Maramagambo Forest

Early morning depart to Kyambura gorge for a forest walk. You will spot a variety of primates and luckily enough the chimpanzees. For bird lovers, this a great opportunity to photograph the abundant colorful species of birdlife boasted by the park.

Alternatively, after breakfast, depart to Maramagambo Forest.  Visitors can climb through tropical forest and catch a glimpse of a variety of primates, including chimpanzee (luckily). Also visit the Bat Caves and the Blue Lake.

Drive onwards to Kampala, with a stopover in Mbarara for lunch, arriving early evening.
