TRIP SUMMARY

This is a purely adventure packaged safari to Uganda with lots of activities that will keep you longing for more. It first takes you to Murchison falls national park for lots of adventure including a boat cruise, hike to the top of the falls, game viewing and birding.

It then proceeds to Kibale Forest National park, the only park in Uganda with up to 13 primates including Chimpanzees, different kinds of monkeys, mangabeys, bush babies, pottos among others. It then continues with a half mountain Rwenzori climbing before wrapping it up with Gorilla tracking in Bwindi forest.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

On arrival at Entebbe Airport, you will be welcomed by our professional Safari guide/ driver to transfer to Murchison falls national park. Drive to northern Uganda and you will have a stopover at the top of Murchison falls for Sight viewing and taking memorable photos. This is about a 4 – 5 hours’ drive.

You will then proceed to the accommodation facility for dinner and overnight.

  • Up-market: Paraa lodge, Nile safari lodge, Chobe safari lodge
  • Mid-Range: Sambiya River lodge, Murchison River lodge, Fort Murchison lodge
  • Budget: Bwana Tembo camp, Red chill camp

Day 2: Morning Game drive & afternoon Boat cruise

After breakfast, you will enjoy an early morning game drive to catch up with early raisers before returning to their hideout. Expect to encounter lots of birds and animals like elephants, lions, Buffaloes, Antelopes, waterbucks, Impalas among others.  Return to your Lodge for lunch; relax as you prepare for afternoon boat cruise to the bottom of Murchison falls to see water loving mammals like Hippos, Crocodiles and so on.

  • Return to the accommodation facility for dinner and overnight

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Nation Park (Home to Chimps) 6-7hrs drive

You will leave Murchison falls national Park after breakfast, drive to Kibale National Park – the home of chimpanzees. This 6 – 7 drive journey will take you through the traditional African home stead, sight viewing on the way. You will arrive in the evening for dinner and overnight.

  • Mid-range: Kibale safari camp, Chimp nest, Chimpanzee guest house, CVK lodge

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking and Nocturnal walk in the evening

After breakfast, you will drive to the park headquarters for briefing and then join fellow trekkers to enjoy the memorable activity together.  Alongside chimpanzees, you may also encounter other primate species such as The Grey Cheeked Mangabeys, Black and White colobus monkeys, Vervet Monkeys, Red-tailed monkeys, Blue Monkeys, bush babies, baboons and over 300 bird species.

Stay for one hour with chimps, chat and take memorable photos. Then after, prepare for nocturnal walk in the evening still in Kibale Forest before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Rwenzori & Start of the hiking

After breakfast, drive to mount Rwenzori. The drive will take 1 – 2 hours. Proceed to Nyakalengija trailhead (1600m) to meet your guides who will be helping you with hiking Mountain Rwenzori for briefing.

Climb to Nyabitaba (2650m) through Bakonjo homestead. Begin hiking up to Nyabitaba hut; walk through the banana sambas on the side of the steep foothills, past the typical Bakonjo homesteads! Follow the trail along the Mubuku River, through landslides and up and down rocks and bluffs, Cross the Mahoma River and climb steeply through break fern slopes and podocarpus forest to Nyamitaba hut for overnight.

Day 6: Climbing to John Matte hut

In the morning, follow the trail that drops down through the forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge, just below the confluence of the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers. Passing through the bamboo forest, traverse through a long and exhausting stretch of slippery moss-covered rock. From the Nyamileju rock shelter, Mount Stanley and Mount Speke can be seen before passing into the zone of the giant heather, lobelia and groundsel. You will reach John Matte Hut after passing through the tiring bog, for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 7: Climbing to Bujuku Hut

This trail drops to the Bujuku River. The upper Bigo Bog gives way to Bujuku Lake, with views of Mt Baker to the South and Mt Stanley to the west. Bujuku Hut, well located in the shadow of Mount Baker and Mount Speke, is set in a narrow valley below Steinmann pass. You will have dinner and Overnight at the tent/Hut.

Day 8, 9 & 10: Dropping Back to the Starting point

Since this is a half day hike. The trip doesn’t reach the highest point of the renowned ‘mountains of the moon’. So after, the Bujuku camp, you will start on the hike down to the base of the mountain through the Bujuku camp, Kitandara, Nyabitaba camp and out of the national park. Relax for dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you will drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park. This is a 5 – 6 hours’ drive. You will pass via Queen Elizabeth National Park proceeding to Ishasha sector where you may see the tree climbing lions, Baboons, birds and so on.

You will reach Bwindi in late afternoon for relaxation as you wait for dinner and overnight at the accommodation facility, depending on which sector you booked with for gorilla tracking.

Day 12: Gorilla trekking

You will wake-up for heavy breakfast, drive to park headquarters (with packed lunch and water) for briefing about gorilla tracking. Thereafter, join fellow trackers and head up the slopes of the Forest to visit one of the habituated groups of gorillas. The trek is quite strenuous, so you should be able to hike for 2-5 hours on steep mountain trails before meeting gorillas camouflaged in thick vegetation.

Enjoy their view and take photographs for a maximum of one hour.

Return to the lodge for relaxation as you wait for dinner and overnight.

Day 13: Visit the Batwa/ Lake Bunyonyi

On this day, you will can decide on either visiting the Batwa (Pygmies) communities or transferring to Lake Bunyonyi.

For the community tour, you will visit the Batwa communities for lots of Music, dance and drama in the morning before returning to the Lodge for lunch for relaxation as you wait for dinner and overnight.

Alternatively, if you chose Lake Bunyonyi, after breakfast you will transfer to the lake on an about a 3 hours’ drive. Enjoy the spectacular views of the country’s deepest lake with tens of islands. After lunch, you will take a boat around the lake for alt more adventure before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 14: Transfer to Entebbe

After breakfast, transfer to Entebbe Airport, you will have stopovers in Mbarara town for lunch and at the Uganda Equator in Masaka for photos and experiments to prove for the Northern and Southern hemispheres of the earth as divided by this major Latitude. Proceed to the Airport to wait for your departure flight or accommodation in Kampala/ Entebbe.
