4 Days Rwanda Gorillas & Golden Monkey Tracking

This trip to Rwanda also known as the Land of a thousand hills takes you to Volcanoes National Park, the most popular and visited national park in the country, the land of a thousand hills. Volcanoes is referred to as a haven for the mountain gorillas, the most threatened species of the primates’ family in Africa. The park also inhabits the rare monkey species of the old-word Monkey family, the Golden Monkeys that are endemic to the Virunga massif.

You will also visit the tombs of an American naturalist, Dian Fossey remembered to have played a very vital role in the conservation of the Mountain Gorillas through her research in the 1960’s.

It should be noted that Dian Fossey was murdered by unknown assailants at her home in 1985, a crime often attributed to the poachers she had spent her life fighting against.

Day 1: Transfer to Ruhengeri

• Meet your guide in Kigali or at the Airport for a transfer to Volcanoes National park in Ruhengeri with stopovers at different genocide memorial sites.
• In the evening, you will visit the Twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo and take a boat ride so as to interact with different local Rwandese.
• Dinner and overnight stay in Ruhengeri at Gorilla Nest Camp for up market/Kinigi guest house for budget/Hotel Muhabura for midrange

Day 2: Gorilla tracking

• Start on your trek into the thick impenetrable forest to start your search for the endangered rare species of Mountain Gorillas after a quick briefing by the rangers.

• 

  You will be allowed to interact with the Gorillas for only an hour after finding them, take some photos. Later on return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Golden Monkey tracking and Dian Fossey or Lake Kivu visit

• After breakfast, go for Golden monkey tracking after which you will visit the visit Ross Carr’s orphanage and Lake Kivu.

• 

  Alternatively you can trek to Dian Fossey’s grave and also visit the Local community projects, schools and health facilities.

Day 4: Transfer to Kigali

• After breakfast, transfer to Kigali which is country’s capital city for a more city tour.
• Later on, return for dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Des Mille Collins for mid-range or Kigali Serena Hotel for up market or Hotel Chezlando for Budget.
