4 Days River Nile Adventure & Trip to Sipi Falls

TRIP SUMMARY

This purely water adventure Safari concentrates on exploring the Eastern Part of Uganda, specifically the longest river in the world, the Nile in Jinja and the Sipi Falls in Kapchorwa, northeast of Sironko and Mbale districts.

This trip is not for the hydrophobic as it includes visiting the source of the Nile, kayaking and rafting on its falls, bungee jumping (currently not in service) among others.

Not only that, you will also hike through the extinct volcanoes of Mountain Elgon and see the mesmerizing Sipi Falls. Sipi is a series of three waterfalls that lie on the edge of Mount Elgon National Park near the Kenyan border with a longest drop of 100 meters. The Sipi Falls area is the starting point for many hikes up Mt. Elgon

You will also visit the Mount Elgon Conservation Center, the local people around the mountain and their unique culture plus the rock paintings at Kakoro.

ITINERARY:

Day 1: Transfer to Sipi Falls

Depart in the morning with our guide for Sipi Falls. You will have lunch en route. In the evening, have a walk to Uganda’s most romantic and beautiful falls as well as in the local shambas.

  • Dinner and overnight at Sipi Falls Rest Camp, a perfect place to relax for accommodation with its thatched cottages, overlooking the falls and the Karamajong plains.

Day 2: Hike the Elgon

After Breakfast, Hike to the Mount Elgon Conservation Centre. Explore the cliffs and caves of this extinct mountain that is 4,321m high and within the 1145sq km of the Mount Elgon National Park. Although the mountain straddles the Kenya border, its loftiest peak, Wagagai, lies within Uganda and is best ascended from the Uganda side. It is believed that this volcano used to stand taller during the prehistoric times than Kilimanjaro does today.

Day 3: Meet the People

In the morning, you can either walk back to the falls to spend time at leisure, meet the local people in the dusty trading centre of Sipi or you can visit the rock paintings at Kakoro. After having lunch, embark on a journey taking you to Jinja.

Day 4:

In the morning, go for a half day rafting o the Nile that will take you through four grades of falls, finishing at Itanda Falls. After Lunch, continue to the Source of the Nile near Jinja town for a boat ride to the exact source of the world’s longest river. In the evening, drive back to Kampala.

End of the Safari.
